We’ve had patients initially come into our practice with jitters and questions about working with a chiropractor. We get it. When trying anything new, it’s normal to experience nerves. However, after sitting through a one-on-one consultation with one of our trusted doctors, our patient’s worries subside.
Maybe you’re not there yet, and perhaps your hesitations come from some of the common myths that have been circulated. Read on as we debunk some of the most common myths surrounding chiropractic care:
MYTH: Chiropractors Aren’t Doctors
In Canada, all practicing chiropractors must complete an undergraduate program before going on to attain a Doctorate of Chiropractic. Just like medical doctors, chiropractors go through clinical training in addition to completing rigorous studies. Chiropractic is a regulated health profession in all Canadian provinces. Alberta chiropractors are governed under the Health Professions Act and are required to comply with standards of practice that are laid out by the Alberta College and Association of Chiropractors.
MYTH: Neck Adjustments Cause Strokes
Are you nervous about adjustments? Some of this may stem from the unfounded claim that neck adjustments cause strokes. There have been several studies done on this particular issue, and all show that cases presenting this complication have likely been an unfortunate coincidence. There is no evidence that there is increased risk of stroke following chiropractic care or treatment.
MYTH: Chiropractic Care Isn’t Scientific
Many scientific studies have shown that chiropractic care provides an array of benefits to patients. Some of the most common benefits that have been proven as a result of chiropractic care include reduced pain, increased immune function, well-being and increased brain function. As an evidence-based practitioner, Dr. Angela Pucci is committed to developing patient treatment plans based on clinical research.
